Cells at Work! turns human immunology into a workplace anime, and it is genuinely educational without ever feeling like homework. The body is a city, red blood cells are couriers, white blood cells are exterminators, and a bacterial infection is a public safety incident.

The science is accurate to a degree that surprised a lot of viewers. Killer T cells, macrophages, dendritic cells and the actual mechanism of an allergic reaction all appear with their real functions intact, dressed up as jobs. Medical students have reportedly used it as a revision aid.

The platelets are the reason the show got popular. Depicted as a crew of tiny children in hard hats because platelets are physically small, they patch wounds with construction equipment and are almost unbearably endearing.

The white blood cell's spatter-covered uniform and permanent exhaustion make him a very good protagonist for a series about maintenance under constant attack.
