Collection CatDog

CatDog is a Nickelodeon series about a cat and a dog joined at the middle with no back ends, and the show never explains it, discusses it, or treats it as unusual. That commitment is what makes it work.

The comedy comes entirely from incompatibility. Cat is fastidious, ambitious and neurotic. Dog is enthusiastic, filthy and easily distracted. They share a body, so every desire one has is immediately sabotaged by the other, and neither can walk away from an argument.

The supporting cast are all worse. Winslow, the mouse in the wall, exists purely to make things harder. The Greasers are dogs who bully them for existing. Almost nobody in Nearburg is nice, and the town's general hostility gives the show a bite that a lot of 90s cartoons lacked.

The animation style is loose and rubbery in a way that suits characters who are physically impossible.
