Breaking Bad's structure is famously simple and almost nobody has managed to repeat it. A chemistry teacher gets a terminal diagnosis, decides to cook methamphetamine for his family's sake, and the show spends five seasons demonstrating that the family was never the reason.

The transformation is what makes it a masterclass. Vince Gilligan pitched it as turning Mr. Chips into Scarface, and the series is disciplined about the pace - Walter's slide happens in dozens of small justifications, each individually defensible, which is precisely why it's so uncomfortable.

Gus Fring is the best thing the show built. A man who runs a fast-food chain with the same precision as a cartel, always polite, always folding his shirt sleeves, and terrifying in direct proportion to how calm he is.

The New Mexico photography did as much work as the writing - that bleached desert light became the show's signature.
