Collection The Bad Guys

The Bad Guys is a heist film about five animals who are villains because everyone assumed they would be. A wolf, a snake, a shark, a piranha and a tarantula, all extremely good at crime, all quietly tired of being feared.

DreamWorks made a bold visual choice here. Instead of the studio's usual polished CG, the film uses a stylised, line-heavy look inspired by Spider-Verse and mid-century crime posters - flat backgrounds, graphic smears, and character animation that leans into pose rather than realism. It's one of the best-looking mainstream animated films of recent years.

The heist mechanics are done properly too, with the split-screen planning sequences and slick reversals the genre demands, but the actual story is about whether a reputation is a cage.

Mr. Snake is the standout: a genuine misanthrope with one soft spot, and the film gets a lot of mileage out of refusing to redeem him quickly.
