Bungo Stray Dogs has one of the most audacious premises in anime: every character is named after a real author, and their supernatural ability is named after that author's most famous work. Dazai Osamu can nullify powers with a touch, and his ability is called No Longer Human.

It sounds like a gimmick and it's actually a rich one. Knowing anything about the writers adds a layer to the characters - Dazai's cheerful suicidality is drawn directly from the real Dazai's biography, and the series is quietly serious about it underneath the action.

Structurally it's a supernatural detective story, with the Armed Detective Agency, the Port Mafia and the Guild circling each other in a version of Yokohama where ability users are simply part of the criminal ecosystem.

Chuya and Dazai's history as a double agent pairing is the fandom's favourite part, and the series is happy to feed that.
