Collection Rec Room

Rec Room is what happens when you give millions of people a VR sandbox and a set of building tools. It started as a social space with paintball and dodgeball, and the players turned it into an enormous archive of homemade games, escape rooms, quests and things that shouldn't run at all.

The avatars are the visual signature: simple blocky heads and floating hands, no legs, and an enormous amount of expressiveness anyway. Because the hands track directly, communication is mostly gesture - pointing, waving, high-fiving - and the platform feels more social than its geometry suggests.

The creation tools deserve real credit. There's a full circuit-based logic system in there, and teenagers have built things with it that a professional studio would budget weeks for.

It's also cross-platform, which means the VR headset crowd and the phone-and-controller crowd end up in the same paintball match, usually with predictable results.
