OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes is a Cartoon Network series set in a strip mall where everyone is a hero and hero-ing is a retail job. K.O. works at a bodega. Levelling up is a literal mechanic. The show is soaked in video game logic and does not apologise for it.
Ian Jones-Quartey built it out of genuine affection for fighting games and shonen anime, and it shows in every frame - power levels, character select energy, transformation sequences, and a boss villain who runs a competing big-box store.
The trio at the centre works because their energies are so mismatched. K.O.'s puppy enthusiasm, Enid's competent exhaustion, and Rad's completely unearned confidence make almost any scene funny before the plot arrives.
It also gets surprisingly serious about legacy and parenting, and the reveals about K.O.'s family land harder than a show this bright has any obligation to attempt.
This collection covers the Plaza crew and their turbo forms. Recommended for anyone who ever wanted their desktop to look like a character select screen.
