Centaurworld begins with a war horse falling through a portal into a pastel world where everything is a centaur and everything sings. It looks like a fever dream, and for the first few episodes you're not sure whether the show knows how strange it is. It does.
The trick is the art style. Horse is drawn realistically. Everyone around her is drawn like a toddler's sticker book. That visual clash is the whole thesis - she's a soldier who wants to get back to a battlefield, surrounded by creatures whose biggest problem is anxiety, and the show slowly convinces you that their problems are the real ones.
The songs are genuinely good, which makes the tonal swings land harder. A number about digestive tracts sits three minutes away from something that will make you put your drink down.
The herd carries it: Wammawink's smothering maternal panic, Glendale's kleptomania and portal stomach, Durpleton's relentless sincerity, Zulius, Ched and Stabby all pulling in different directions.
This collection covers them all. If you finished the show and needed a minute afterwards, put one on your screen.
