Trollhunters is Guillermo del Toro doing children's television, which means the monsters are beautifully designed and the stakes are never softened. A teenager finds an amulet in a canal, becomes the first human Trollhunter in history, and discovers a civilisation living under his suburb.
The world-building is the draw. Heartstone Trollmarket is a real place with politics, history and a long memory, and the trolls in it aren't creatures so much as people with different rules - they turn to stone in daylight, they eat things that should not be eaten, and they have opinions about a human holding their most sacred object.
Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!! carry the heart of it. A six-eyed scholar who talks too much and an enormous former warrior who barely talks at all make one of the better mentor pairings in animation, and their friendship is the most consistently moving thing in the show.
This collection reaches across Tales of Arcadia - Jim, Claire, Blinky, AAARRRGGHH!!!, Stricklander, Angor Rot, and the Akiridion siblings Aja and Krel.
For the Glory of Merlin, and for a desktop that looks a bit more interesting.
