Collection Easter

Easter is one of those holidays that collected traditions the way a coat collects lint. Painted eggs came from one place, the rabbit from German folklore, the chocolate from a marketing department, and now they all show up together every spring without anyone questioning it.

The eggs are the part that translates best to a screen. Decorating them is genuinely old - dyed shells have turned up at archaeological sites thousands of years before anyone thought to hide them in a garden. Every culture that adopted the practice added its own patterns, from Ukrainian pysanky to plain supermarket pastels.

The rabbit is a stranger story. The Osterhase was reportedly judging whether children had behaved well enough to deserve coloured eggs, which is a job description remarkably similar to a certain December employee's.

This collection goes for the visual shorthand: striped and speckled eggs, baskets, fluffy chicks, and bunnies in the soft pinks, yellows and mint greens the season insists on.

It's a good seasonal swap. Put one on in March, enjoy a desktop that looks like a spring window display, and change it back when the chocolate runs out.
