Collection Inuyasha

Inuyasha was one of the anime that defined late-night television for a whole generation of Western viewers, and it comes from Rumiko Takahashi, who has been one of the most commercially successful manga artists alive for four decades.

The premise is a schoolgirl falling down a well into feudal Japan and shattering a wish-granting jewel, which conveniently produces a quest structure that can run for as long as the shards last. And they last a very long time.

What holds it together is the ensemble. A half-demon with anger issues, a monk with a cursed hand and no manners, a demon slayer carrying an enormous boomerang, and a fox child who does most of the emotional labour. Their bickering is the actual content of the series.

Kirara - the two-tailed cat who transforms into something much larger - remains one of the best creature designs in the genre.
